Fans helped to boost the ratings for the Rio Olympics on Thursday night thanks to the premiere of a brand new trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. It was quite the wait for premiere, but worth it once we got a good look at all the Imperial era hallmarks we know and love from the original Star Wars trilogy. And like the true hero he is, Mr. Sunday Movies is back with a new Easter eggs video to analyze all the references and characters we got to meet throughout the newest trailer for Rogue One.
There’s a lot of past information in this video, tossing in a lot of the revelations we’ve already seen announced in the past weeks. This includes the description of Jedha and its connection to the Jedi, the arrival of Bail Organa into the film from the prequels, and a few of the other characters that will be making a return appearance. There’s also an interesting piece of info about Peter Cushing’s digital appearance in the film, with plenty of derision tossed at the idea that Cushing’s legs were causing trouble for the filmmakers. Considering how much the entire series has relied on characters that didn’t exist, the idea that a dead actor’s legs would derail shooting is crazy.
The real interesting aspects from the video, and Rogue One in general, is how it is pulling from the original expanded universe to craft this film. Seeing how Knights of the Old Republic would live on within Rogue One’s mouthy droid or how some aspects from Dark Forces are returning — though not Kyle Katarn. Don’t expect Rogue One to have an expansive story with Jyn Erso becoming a Jedi or anything along those lines. Things likely don’t end too well for the characters we’ll grow to enjoy in Rogue One, especially given how it leads right into A New Hope.
