The most beloved black hat in Aurora public access television history could be popping up once again. Or more accurately, the guy wearing the Wayne’s World ball cap has expressed that he’s not against a return to the SNL spawned franchise.
Mike Myers, a man who we’d still like to see a lot more of provided The Love Guru isn’t involved, recently engaged in a bit of chat with The Canadian Press. During their talk, Myers conceded that he’s not against the prospect of getting Wayne’s World out of suspended animation.
“It would be an interesting examination of Wayne at 50,” chuckled Myers at the prospect. “I don’t know what it would look like, but the idea of it makes me laugh and Dana (Carvey) and I had a blast at the 40th anniversary, so I don’t know.”
The motion picture (which really could have birthed a lovely Terry spin-off) is set to turn 25 next year, which probably explains why our hands are covered in dust and cobwebs. It’s not like Mike Myers knocks out movies The Rock style where you imagine he gets a free sub after every six films, so adjust your expectations, hopes, dreams, desires, worries and so forth until anything happens. Also keep this in mind for potential projects like So I Keep Marrying Axe Murderers and 54 Part II: Will Someone Please Sweep Up This Cocaine, Thanks, Darling.
Myers shared that when he last appeared on Saturday Night Live, it was a cameo appearance during Ryan Gosling’s hosting gig, there was something special about how he was able to usher noted Quebecois celebrity Bonhomme, the King of the Quebec Winter Carnival onto the show.
“The bonhomme de neige was my favourite part of it,” said Myers. “This is the thing about ‘Saturday Night Live’ that’s amazing, is, I think that was written on a Thursday … maybe it was written on a Friday, and I said: ‘OK, there’s this thing, it’s hard to explain, it’s called bonhomme de neige.’
“And then all of a sudden, the next day at rehearsal, there’s a bonhomme de neige suit and I’m like, ‘How do they do that?’ It kind of wrecks you from movies because in movies it’s like, there are 10 meetings on: ‘And what exactly would you like with the bonhomme de neige?’
“Instead (on ‘SNL’) … literally people are like, ‘You just made that up,’ and it’s like, ‘No, there really is a thing called bonhomme de neige’ — and (the next day) there’s Bonhomme. It’s crazy.”
Geez, it’s almost like America is not up on their Men Without Hats videos or something.
