Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters is out on video, so viewers can continue to choose if they’d like to watch it, spew rage about it, complain that they’re not allowed to not like it, harass Leslie Jones like a f*cking lunatic, or never speak of this again. Feig spoke of the movie again to The Daily Beast, who started by asking him if he saw the video of Donald Trump being incredulous about female Ghostbusters. Yes, Feig’s seen it, and he noted a pattern among some of his nastiest Twitter trolls, but he tries to put a positive spin on it.

“I would get angry at horrendous tweets and I would go back and see who said it, and a good amount of the time there would be some pro-Trump thing on there. I don’t know how to say it, but things always get crazy before they get better. Everybody screams the loudest before the new normal happens, so if this is the death throes of that old way of thinking, then that’s great.”

In the meantime, the movie probably lost up to $70 million, so Sony’s plans to relaunch the franchise aren’t clear at the moment. There are animated shows coming, but no word yet on a live action movie, not even the Channing Tatum one. But Feig says he’d still love to do another Ghostbusters:

“That’s up to the studio because they have to pay for it. Nobody’s called me. But I love those characters and I know they are now heroes and mean a lot to a lot of people, so in a perfect world it would be great if we could see them bust more ghosts, kick more ass, and be awesome again.”

Feig also reiterated a point he made during his interview with us, telling The Daily Beast, “I hope the world will go, wow, we got upset over something that we really didn’t need to get upset over. I’m hoping that time will rehabilitate us.”

Sequel or not, time healing all rifts or not, we’ll always have the Kate McKinnon outtakes. And the comments sections. Those are sure to be great, too. Just wonderful comments, one and all.
