The 10 Best GIFs From Last Night’s NBC Comedies

Community: “Herstory of Dance” continued Community‘s recent run of sweet, if not particularly funny episodes. But rather than criticize what didn’t work, let’s focus on the good stuff: the Dean’s costume was his best in some time, Britta would like Sophie B. Hawkins, and best of all, Abed’s meet-cute-but-not-chasing-bubbles-cute with Rachel was, well, cute. I’m not the biggest Abed fan in the world, and I was worried that his dedication to NOT committing hijinks would be too similar to the time he and Troy attempted to be “normal,” but thanks largely to (not Alison) Brie Larson’s sweet performance, I ended up rooting for those crazy kids, almost as much as I rooted for Awake to get a second season. Hopefully things turn out better for them.
Parks and Recreation: A slightly sloppy episode, at least by Parks and Rec‘s high standards, but don’t care, going to watch Ben Wyatt get his Robert Goulet on and feed a fake animal again. And again. Nice Infinite Jest references, too.
The Office: And now, they’re self-aware. After a decade of footage, in “Promos,” the Dunder Mifflin gang realizes how much the documentary crew has been filming, which is to say, everything. All their lies, all their affairs, all their XXX warehouse encounters. For some, it’s a slap in the face (Oscar and Angela, or perhaps more accurately, Senator Lipton), while for others, it’s a reminder of how much the love of her life has changed. That phone call between Pam and Jim, both struggling for something to say, was heartbreaking, and I think it’s only going to get worse for our favorite former receptionist.
Go On: Go On‘s in that grey area between “I don’t hate it enough to not watch it” and “I don’t think it’s good enough that I have to pay attention.” I’ve seen nearly every episode, and enjoyed a few, but I can’t recall a single joke that made me laugh out loud. There’s a decent show in there somewhere; it’s just that the show’s biggest problem, Ryan, is played by the show’s biggest star, Matthew Perry. As long as Brett Gelman and Seth Morris keeping getting paychecks, though, I’m pro Go On.
