The Chicago Cubs’ championship curse lasted so long, many wondered if there was something supernaturally wrong surrounding the team (hence the term “curse”). One hundred and eight years of failure is enough for people to wonder anything, after all, and you can bet there were thousands of Cubs fans praying to whatever gods would listen for their team to finally get over the hump. Well, one church believes that those desperate folk need to put their money where their mouths are.

For all of the praying Cubs fans ostensibly did, who knows if divine intervention played a part in the win. After all, the rain delay just as the Indians seemed to have all the momentum truly might have seemed like an act of God to some, and we’ve all probably heard someone say that their comeback from a 3-1 deficit was a miracle.
Tragically, it appears that most Cubs fans responded to the answers of their prayers by engaging in all manner of sin. Maybe after this weekend, when the hangover finally kicks in, the revelers in Chicago will pray for thanks – and forgiveness. Or who knows, maybe many of them might just start praying to Bill Murray or something. He seems like a benevolent deity.
