Star Trek Discovery has had no shortage of behind-the-scenes drama. Delays due to the cast’s other commitments, Bryan Fuller having to move on, and repeated missed premiere dates have fans wondering when the show will show up, even as it’s opening up the cast with firsts like openly gay crew members and putting Sonequa Martin-Green front and center. The latest word sounds, a bit, like fans might be waiting a while.
Vulture recently interviewed Marc DeBevoise, president of CBS Interactive and thus the guy in charge of CBS All Access, the streaming app that CBS runs and where Star Trek Discovery will debut. And while DeBevoise was careful not to reveal too much, it sounds like we’ll be waiting a while for a premiere.
As you said, we’re not tied to any specific release date. It’ll be there when we’re ready to do it, and when we feel it’s in a great place. We’re not worried about anything here. We’re excited, and we’ll have more specifics as we get closer to what will likely be the release dates.
Is it likely going to be the fall?

To be fair, there are a lot of moving parts here: It’s a big cast, they’ve got Oscar nominees writing scripts, and, oh yeah, the franchise has a lot to prove: The last episode of Star Trek to air, currently, as the finale of Enterprise handily won our “Worst Trek Episode” bracket back in 2012. So if they need time, they should take it.
