The ‘Fear The Walking Dead’ Midseason Premiere Is Already Teasing A Trip To Alexandria

AMC

We have no idea what Scott Gimple has in store for the future of The Walking Dead universe. We know that Fear the Walking Dead recently lost its lead character, and that The Walking Dead will be losing its lead character when it returns in the fall. Fear has recently undergone a reboot with a new showrunner and several new additions (and subtractions) to the cast, while The Walking Dead will be going through a reboot of sorts itself in the upcoming ninth season as it sheds Rick Grimes, loses Morgan Jones, and sees a reduction in the appearances of Maggie Rhee.

Add to that the fact that there is expected to be another The Walking Dead spin-off announced soon, and we’re looking at a lot of transition and instability in The Walking Dead universe. We also know that bringing Morgan onto Fear the Walking Dead was a huge success for the sister series — Fear saw its ratings double with a lead-in from The Walking Dead in its fourth season premiere.

Could more crossovers be in the works? The time jump on The Walking Dead this season apparently does not pose an issue. “It does not [rule out further crossovers],” Scott Gimple told fans at Comic-Con last month, although he would not confirm another crossover. “Yeah, that’s about all I have to say,’ he said, before adding, “I wouldn’t expect [a crossover] all the time, but things could happen.”

Meanwhile, TV Guide has obtained a sneak peak clip from next week’s midseason premiere of Fear the Walking Dead, and it contains a very interesting exchange between Morgan and Alicia. In the clip, Morgan confronts Alicia — who has not been seen much around camp since the death of her mother — and seeks to recruit her to take a trip back East with him. Apparently, Morgan has convinced Al (Maggie Grace) to drive him back to Alexandria, and Morgan spends at least part of the episode asking others to join him.

“I’m heading back east in the morning. Heading back where I came from, and I think you should come along. I think it would be good for you, and I think you could do a lot of good there,” Morgans tells Alicia.

Of course, this doesn’t mean that Alicia will say yes. It doesn’t even mean that Morgan will be able to convince any of the others to leave with him, or that other obstacles won’t get in their way. However, it does mean that returning to Alexandria is on Morgan’s mind, that it’s a possible plan, and that the characters on Fear might possibly spend some or part of the back eight on a road trip back to Virginia.

What it definitely does mean is that a return to Alexandria is in the cards, and while it may not happen immediately, it is certainly something that may be in store for the future of the series. As for the time jump predicament? Who is to say that the Fear characters won’t encounter The Walking Dead characters during the time jump, which is to say that Fear the Walking Dead may be able to fill in the blanks during that upcoming time jump (which may also give The Walking Dead an opportunity to bring back Rick Grimes for a bit).

We should get more answers next week when Fear the Walking Dead returns on August 12th.
