Fool the Minnesota Timberwolves once, shame on Josh Smith and Dwight Howard. Fool the young ‘Wolves twice? It’s probably fair to blame their absolutely porous defense.
Though they haven’t played many games together this season, Smith and Howard have undeniable chemistry – they were AAU teammates and the latter served as the former’s best man. It bears mentioning that pick-and-rolls involving two big men can be especially difficult to defend, too.
Either way, though, it’s absolutely inexcusable for Minnesota to get beat by the same basic set on consecutive possessions. But it’s also not like we should be surprised – Flip Saunders’ ranks last in defense for similar season-long ineptitude.
