Now that Amar’e Stoudemire is officially retired from the NBA and is off to continue his career in Israel, the former All-Star has had some time to reflect on his 13 NBA seasons.
Over the course of those 13 years, Stoudemire had the opportunity to play with several all-time greats, and now he has come out with who his best all-time teammates were from his time spent in Phoenix, New York, Dallas, and Miami during a recent press conference.

Amar’e listed Steve Nash, Allen Iverson, Carmelo Anthony, and Shaquille O’Neal as joining him in the starting lineup of this hypothetical team. He also listed Dwyane Wade and LeBron James, but he has never played with the latter in the NBA, so we’ll remove him from the equation.
A six-man team of Stoudemire, Nash, AI, Melo, D-Wade, and Shaq, sounds pretty good in theory, but in reality it would be pretty hard for all of those guys to get their shots in. The good news is Nash would probably average around 40 assists a game.
Stoudemire also gave more explanation for his decision to retire, saying he wanted to go where he was wanted after not getting the love he was looking for from NBA teams.
“Do I feel overlooked by teams in the NBA? For sure. I came off a great season with the Miami Heat. I started 37-38 of the last 40 games, my stats were pretty good. But teams want to go younger and have a different mindset about basketball.
“I retired from the NBA because I wanted to play for a team that had a chance to win a championship, so I decided to bring my talents to Israel.”
At only 33, Stoudemire probably has a few good years left of international ball, and while he likely would have eventually latched on somewhere in the league if he waited it out, it’s understandable that he felt disrespected and wanted to go where he was wanted. In terms of winning a title, his new team, Hapoel Jerusalem, did win the Israeli Championship in 2015.
