Blake Griffin is one of the more charismatic athletes out there. It’s why his Kia commercials are tolerable, and it’s probably why Michael Jordan named him as his favorite choice to star in a potential Space Jam 2. All that’s well and good, but even Blake’s biggest stans out there probably didn’t realize he’s actually pretty good at stand-up comedy. No, really!
Stand-up is really not an easy thing to do. It’s nerve wracking, and it can even take top comedians months to put together a solid 15 minutes of material. For Blake to get up there — “there” being a stage at the Just for Laughs comedy festival in Montreal — and actually have material is astounding. He’s got a decent eight minutes of observational comedy from his own experiences! This will never not be mind-blowing.
Granted, those eight minutes are padded by a bit wherein he makes a volunteer from the crowd do push ups and jumping jacks, but still. This is way more impressive than when an athlete can play an instrument well — that’s something that they can practice from when they’re kids, and in private. Blake is actually out here saying things like, “What if you could get traded in relationships?” and pulls it off. Madness.
