Retired NBA journeyman Bonzi Wells announced some rather upsetting news via Instagram on Wednesday, telling his followers that he’d suffered what appeared to be a mild heart attack but was later sent home to recover.
Wells posted the following picture to his Instagram account, along with a special message to the medical personnel at St. Vincent Heart Center in Indianapolis thanking them for their assistance during his health emergency.

“I wanna thank these ladies for saving my life. They went above and beyond to make sure I would be ok. I suffered a heart attack @40 but I’m home and feeling good thanks to all that called and prayed for me.”
Wells recently made his return to basketball via Ice Cube’s BIG3 tournament as a co-captain of the Tri-State squad that included another former Trail Blazer, Jermaine O’Neal.
During his NBA days, Wells garnered a somewhat dubious reputation as a member of the notorious “Jail Blazers” era in Portland during the early 2000s. Last month, the 40-year-old Wells hinted via an Instagram post featuring Rasheed Wallace that a long-rumored documentary about that tumultuous time in Trail Blazers lore might be in the making.
In the meantime, we wish Wells a speedy recovery and hope to see him back out on the court for season two of the BIG3.
