The Golden State Warriors staved off elimination by defeating the Oklahoma City Thunder, 120-111, in Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals on Thursday night. The Warriors remain down 3-2 in the series and are headed to a building where the Thunder dominated in Games 3 and 4.
Despite the long odds that still face the Warriors, Draymond Green doesn’t have any doubts that his team will win this series.
In an interview with The Vertical, Green expressed that confidence.
“Absolutely. Not a doubt in my mind,” Green told The Vertical. “We put more pressure on ourselves than anybody could put on us. This is a confident team, regardless, and going through the struggles we went through to get this point, that’s where our confidence comes from.”
It’s pretty surprising that Green said he thinks his team will win the series. You’d think an athlete facing this situation would openly quit on his team. The Vertical getting an exclusive like this could finally give Adrian Wojnarowski some much-deserved praise for his hard work in the scoop business.
Of the past 232 teams to fall behind 3-1 in a series, only nine have come back to win it. In a way, it’s better for all of us if the Warriors win these next two games and then the NBA title, because otherwise the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls will be insufferable all summer, and nobody wants that.
