An otherwise uneventful Wizards-Hornets game ended with quite a flourish on Wednesday night as players on both sides earned ejections amid a late-game dust-up in Charlotte. With just over four minutes remaining, Michael Carter-Williams and Jason Smith got tangled up while battling for position, which led to a shoving match and a whole lot of jawing back-and-forth.
Williams, along with Tim Frazier, both got tossed for their part in the fracas, and when the game finally resumed, Wizards coach Scott Brooks had to choose someone from the Hornets to step in and take a pair of free throws for Williams, who was initially fouled on the play.
Naturally, he chose Dwight Howard, whose well-documented struggles from the line made him the obvious candidate. But because nothing makes sense anymore, Howard proceeded to sink both three throws, and in staying in line with his strange predilection for obscene gestures this season, followed it up by taunting the Wizards with the classic Pedro Cerrano “big balls” dance from Major League.
Howard has already been dinged twice this season for making obscene gestures, racking up a total of $55,000 in fines so far for varying degrees of lewdness. It’ll be interesting to see how the league handles this one once they catch wind of it.
