Timmy D may be gone, but Coach Pop is back in action. 😂 https://t.co/BTOEzGJ8ht

Gregg Popovich did his first in-game interview on Tuesday night during San Antonio’s season opener against Golden State. TNT’s David Aldridge asked about the adjustment to coaching a basketball team without Tim Duncan for the first time in years, and in classic Pop fashion, his response was fantastic.
Popovich said that Duncan was getting fined $2,500 a day for every day he does not report to the team. Sure, he’s joking around, but it’s much more fun to imagine a reality where Pop still hasn’t come to accept that Duncan retired earlier this year because the news about the end of Duncan’s career came so suddenly and with zero fanfare. Besides, the NBA is a better place with Duncan in it, so no one can blame Pop for wishing that the most boring superstar of all-time was still around.
