Since he entered the league, Damian Lillard has proven to be one of the NBA’s most marketable personalities. His stellar play is clearly a major catalyst for that. He’ll make his third All-Star appearance later this month in Los Angeles, and his Blazers currently hold the No. 6 seed in the always-brutal Western Conference.

But Lillard has also made name for himself – Dame D.O.L.L.A., to be exact – as a multi-talented hip hop wunderkind. He started out murdering freestyles over classic beats on “Sway in the Morning,” but has since graduated to headlining his own shows and releasing full-length albums.

It’s garnered him some well-warranted acclaim from the hip hop community at large, and his next challenge could come in the form of testing out his crossover appeal. When beloved folk artist k.d. lang – who moved to Portland in 2012 and is a noted Blazers fan – was asked whether she’d be interested in cutting a record with Dame, lang responded with an emphatic yes.

I wouldn’t hesitate. Are you kidding?

I’ve already fantasized secretly about that one. My current collaboration with him is yelling at him on the TV. As you know, being a Blazer fan is a wide and emotional range.

We personally can’t wait for this to go down. If it does, in fact, come to fruition, it’ll prove once again that life imitates Portlandia here in the Rose City.
