All right everyone, calm down. Even though Space Jam 2 looks like it’s finally happening (and with the director of Fast & Furious 6, no less), the initial report that LeBron James was attached to star in place of Michael Jordan was apparently jumping the gun, according to LeBron soothsayer Brian Windhorst:
Despite a report LeBron will star in Space Jam 2, no deal is in place sources say. Maybe at some point but not as of yet.

This seems like standard Hollywood stuff, with LeBron being the studio’s clear first choice prior to the contracts being signed and a writer jumping the gun. If we had to lay money down, we’d still pick LeBron as the star when all is finalized, but let’s say it falls through because LeBron performatively rejects all distractions after another failure to win the NBA title. Or maybe he bolts Cleveland after a particularly disastrous end to the playoffs, and the second round of vilification scares the studio away. Who else could take up MJ’s mantle of fighting the Monstars (or whoever their successors might be)?
Steph Curry: The obvious choice and perhaps the one that will actually be made if a LeBron deal falls through. Curry has the perfect wholesome energy to sell this as a kids movie.
Kevin Durant: One wonders if he has the acting chops to pull this off, but he could definitely pull off the arm-stretch dunk.
Blake Griffin: Based on commercials, he’s the best actor in the NBA not named LeBron, and he’s got the dunk highlight reels to make MJ proud. But does he still have the profile high enough to be considered the Looney Tunes’ last hope?
Draymond Green: He would just trash talk the Monstars so hard they’d leave voluntarily.
