In a piece of rather absurd injury news earlier this week, Marcus Smart was ruled out of Boston’s game against the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday night. All we knew was that had a lacerated hand after coming in contact with glass, but there was no word on what exactly happened and how he suffered such a strange injury. Nor was there any word on how long he’d be sidelined.

On Friday afternoon, though, the truth came out via Smart’s Twitter account. The fourth-year guard tweeted that he was in the team hotel when he swiped at a picture frame, which led to the laceration occurring to his right hand.

The team also released a statement regarding the injury, which included a timetable on when he’ll be able to return to the floor.

“Following evaluation by Drs. Tony Schena and Drew Terono at New England Baptist Hospital, it was determined that Smart’s timeline for a return to action is approximately two weeks,” the statement read.

Smart has appeared in 46 games this season with 10 starts. He’s averaging 10.1 points per game on 35.7 percent shooting from the field and 29.9 percent shooting from three. Additionally, Smart is averaging a career-high 4.7 assists per game, along with 3.5 rebounds and 1.3 steals a night. Assuming the timetable of two weeks holds up, Smart should return in time to suit up prior to the All-Star break.
