Russell Westbrook will not go gentle into that good night.
It’s absolutely a must-win for the Thunder tonight against the Minnesota Timberwolves, and even then they could still get nudged out of the eighth and final spot in the Western Conference Playoffs. If the Pelicans win, they’ll instantly punch their ticket to the post season since they own the tie-breaker against OKC.
Right now, it’s not looking good for the Thunder as New Orleans is currently leading San Antonio 82-65 late in the third quarter. They really need the Spurs to win, but don’t expect Westbrook to root for a rival team. When asked about his team’s predicament Monday after their win against the Trailblazers, he had this to say:
“I ain’t got to root for nobody,” he said. “I ain’t no Spurs fan.”
If things don’t work out in the Thunder’s favor, we’re going to miss watching Westbrook run amok all over his opponents and wrack up stupefying triple doubles. The one consolation prize will be winning the scoring title, which he’s already sewn up. That’ll be cold comfort for a competitor like Westbrook but a pretty phenomenal achievement nonetheless.
At the half.
Westbrook: 34pts
Harden 14ptsIf RW gets 35, JH would have to score 77 to take the scoring title.
