You can be forgiven for not following Eurobasket 2015. After all, it’s only on ESPN3 and NBA TV, it’s in the afternoon, and the percentage of NBA players participating is never as high as you think it might be. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t quality basketball to be had, and for the geeks hurting this offseason, it’s time to appreciate the basketball that is happening. Like when Tony Parker dusts off his alpha dog shoes and scores nine straight points to take control of France’s quarterfinal against Latvia, for instance.
We haven’t seen this version of Tony in a little while, but man is it fun to see. If Tony is the old dog who’s still got some bite for France, then Rudy Gobert is the excited puppy. But, like, if the excited puppy was a Great Dane with a hell of a mean streak. They had a wonderful, generation-crossing alley-oop which Gobert threw down with a vengeance:
France beat Latvia, 84-70, to set up a semifinal with Spain, which will be a rematch of the knock-down, drag-out fight from the 2014 FIBA World Cup. That was in Spain, but France went in and upset the Spanish. The semifinal is in France, and you better believe Spain wants some revenge, especially considering the winner of the semi gets an automatic berth in the 2016 Olympics.
Now you want to watch Eurobasket, right? Right. Here are the full highlights from the game:
