It’s been a while since we heard anything about Tim and Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie, which will feature performances by Zach Galifianakis, Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly, Jeff Goldblum, and Robert f*cking Loggia, among others, but now we know it has a distributor (Magnolia), a release date (March 20th in theaters, January 27th on VOD), and a teaser, which you can watch below. The bad news is, John C. Reilly won’t be playing Dr. Steve Brule. The good news is, he’ll be playing a character named Taquito who lives in an abandoned mall.
Directors Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim go meta with their characters/personalities, saying that it’s about “literally getting a billion dollars to make a movie, and we make it, and things go awry, and Tim and I just decide to get out of Hollywood and become businessmen in an abandoned mall.”
[Reilly says of his character] “His name is Taquito and he lives in the abandoned mall.” […] “We already shot it in a real abandoned mall in Palm Springs. There’s nothing sadder than an abandoned mall, all these shitty buildings to begin with… it’s kind of this strange testament to the failure of capitalism or something.” [ThePlaylist]
I suppose the capitalism angle is, like, timely and stuff, but if I’m honest, my main thought was “YAY! John C. Reilly as a lovable sad Mexican!”
I’m expecting less adorable slurring, and more hilarious accents. I’m pretty dumb, as it turns out.
