There are actually three pieces of news that involve both Green Day and movies today, so we’ll start with the most relevant. Yesterday, the band released the first teaser trailer for the documentary ¡Cuatro!, which is due out next month and will offer an inside look into the making of the band’s latest ambitious albums, “¡Uno!,” “¡Dos!” and “¡Tré!.” There’s no word yet as to whether or not Billie Joe Armstrong’s little meltdown in Las Vegas from last year will be mentioned, but hopefully that will at least make the DVD extras.
Additionally, the band is working on a second documentary entitled, Broadway Idiot, which will give us another inside look into the process of taking their critically-acclaimed album, “American Idiot,” and turning it into a Broadway musical.
And if all of that documentary news wasn’t enough Green Day big screen action for you, Deadline reported yesterday that Armstrong will star alongside Leighton Meester in Frank Whaley’s latest writing and directing effort, Like Sunday, Like Rain, which is about “a struggling musician (Meester) who becomes the guardian of a 12-year-old music prodigy one summer.” Armstrong will play her boyfriend in what Deadline calls his “first film acting role” I guess this just wasn’t enough for some people
