The Double, Richard Ayoade’s follow-up to his 2010 feature film directorial debut, Submarine, premiered on Saturday at the Toronto International Film Festival, and it definitely is not to be confused with the 2010 Richard Gere and Topher Grace film of the same name, because that movie was hilariously awful. Instead, Ayoade’s The Double stars Jesse Eisenberg and Mia Wasikowska in the film adaptation of the classic Fyodor Dostoyevsky short story, and because we didn’t get to attend the TIFF, we have to settle for this new trailer.
The Double tells the story of a quiet, shy man who loses his sh*t because he thinks that an identical man is stealing his life, thanks to a better personality and the fact that people generally like him more. It’s basically the true story of me and Brad Pitt.
