John Williams Is Most Likely Going To Score ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’

As details of the future of the Star Wars franchise have trickled out, most notably those of Episode VII being helmed by director JJ Abrams, a lot of people have been asking questions about how much will be carried over from Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, which was released in 1983. Obviously, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford and the Ewoks are all a bit older and somewhat heavier since then, so wrinkles and loss of memory and other such old people things would need to be taken into account.

But as those details are worked out by Abrams and the so-called “writers”, it appears that one link between Episodes VI and VII will be the iconic music of John Williams. Abrams and Williams have been saying all of the right things about bringing the composer on for at least the next film, but Williams’ latest comments seem to infer that the deal is all but signed.

“We’ve certainly talked about that, and I’m happy and willing to do it,” he confirms. “J.J. Abrams, who will be the director, seems excited about the idea. I have to say that J.J. is a much younger man than I, but I will try to keep up with him as much as I can!”

The imminent birth of a new “Star Wars” iteration intrigues Williams in general. “We now have the benefit of all this computer simulation and technical work that wasn’t even possible 20 or 25 years ago,” he reasons.

“I don’t know how hands-on George Lucas will be — I suspect he will be to some degree — but I can only imagine how excited he must be, to have a director like J.J. have all these tools at his fingertips to produce something even more adventurous technologically. I can’t wait to see what he will do with it.” (Via Zap2It)

Just get it done before Disney gets any batsh*t ideas and will.i.am is signed to create the new film’s soundtrack. Scoff all you want, but this isn’t very unrealistic:
