In news that I can’t believe we didn’t write about in 1998, Warner Bros. is bringing the classic television series Gilligan’s Island to the big screen. Seriously, I cannot believe that this hasn’t been done already, what with everything from The A-Team and Starsky & Hutch to 21 Jump Street and Bewitched getting the zany nostalgia treatment, but here we are on the verge of another run of studios trying to milk 9-figures out of the retro cow. And just like those other movies, this project is probably only being launched because it has a big name attached, and that name is “Josh Gad.”
According to Deadline, Gad will star in the retelling of the adventure of Gilligan, the Skipper, the Professor, the millionaire and his wife, and the two hot ladies. I assume he’ll play the Skipper, because of the similarity of size between the actor and the character made famous by Alan Hale, Jr., and Gilligan will probably be played by Miles Teller, so we can cover all of Hollywood’s “hilarious” guys of the moment. Oh, and Christina Hendricks as Ginger and Katy Perry as Mary Ann, because you know that sh*t’s gonna happen.
Gad will write the film with Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez, who are currently writers on the Rebel Wilson sitcom Super Fun Night, but they were also the guys who provided the jokes for the canceled 1600 Penn, which was easily one of the worst TV shows of 2012. So if you can’t tell… I’m not very excited about this.
