New Line’s latest attempt to cash in on a cashed out movie franchise is one step closer to fruition, as the final piece of the Vacation puzzle has fallen into place. Joining Ed Helms as Rusty Griswold in the Vacation sequel that isn’t a reboot is Leslie Mann, who will be playing his sometimes-younger and sometimes-older sister, Audrey. Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo are returning as Clark and Ellen Griswold, respectively, because they probably weren’t doing much else anyway. Hell, New Line could save some money by telling Randy Quaid that he has to return as Cousin Eddie or the Illuminati alien butt probers will return to finish their work.
Chris Hemsworth and Charlie Day are also in negotiations to join the cast, perhaps with one as Audrey’s husband and the other as Cousin Eddie’s equally batsh*t son. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like we’re finally going to get the Vacation and National Lampoon’s Holiday Reunion crossover that we’ve desperately needed, so that Bryan Cranston can once again star as Woodrow Snider, his greatest role to date.
