Following up on Lionsgate casting relative unknown Naomi Scott as the Pink Ranger in their 2017 Power Rangers movie, they’ve announced the young unknown who will play the Red Ranger: Dacre Montgomery. So, let’s get the first question out of the way: It’s pronounced “day-curr” and it’s Celtic.
We don’t know much about Montgomery (he has no major TV or film credits, and the only biographical information on IMDb is his height, 5-foot-10), but we do know a little about this iteration of the Red Ranger, thanks to a leaked character description. He’s playing Jason, a former star quarterback whose athletic career ended in a car crash. Now he needs a new purpose and finds it by leading a group who will “shed their individual baggage and find who they truly are.”
Normally, when I hear about a young jock trying to shed baggage and discover who he truly is, the first thing that comes to mind isn’t a Power Rangers movie, but oh well.
Now that’s what I’m talkin’ about.
