The casting odyssey for J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: Episode VII continues and if rumors are true, I’m fearful for a galaxy far, far away. The Wrap is reporting that Jesse Plemons, everyone’s favorite ginger psychopath from AMC’s Breaking Bad, is in the lead for a major role in the highly anticipated sequel. From the article:
Plemons is scheduled to meet with director J.J. Abrams next week to discuss the highly anticipated sequel, which is expected to bring back original stars Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford. Plemons has already taped an audition that was well-received by those involved in the casting process, and he’ll by flying in to Los Angeles from Austin, Texas for a second audition that will bring him face-to-face with Abrams.
This is the latest bit of news to sneak out of the top secret casting process. And with every new casting possibility comes the rabid speculation as to what role they will play in the film. Here’s hoping he’s some form of Gungan/Human monstrosity. From Indiewire:
No details on what that role might be, but as the Wrap speculates, Plemons does look vaguely like a young Luke Skywalker and there’s been many rumors that have said the new “Star Wars” films will pick up with the children of Luke, Han and Leia.
He looks just like that guy! He’s white and everything! This hasn’t turned out poorly in the past, right? I can only hope it works more like it did for Mark Hamill and less like it did for Hayden Christensen or, God forbid, Jake Lloyd. The last thing we need is an angst-ridden Todd who regrets accepting the role and ends up playing Breaking Bad for real.
The only thing I’m willing to speculate is that he won’t be playing a stormtrooper, seeing as he can handle himself with a gun.
