Let’s Liveblog Monday’s Geeky TV: ‘Gotham’ Lights Up A Firefly

Gotham has, after a rough first season, really managed to turn it around. It’s wholeheartedly embraced its over-the-top tone, it’s offered loads of plot twists and complications, and it’s even brought back the dark comedy that marked the highlights of the first season. And now it’s going into new waters, by introducing an honest-to-Monitor supervillain.

This Firefly isn’t the one fans know and tolerate the Arkham game side-missions of, though; Fox is so proud of its female Firefly they sent along a press release about Michelle Veintimilla’s role. I can’t say I think the twist matters much; Firefly’s always been something of a shallow villain and his best moment didn’t even feature him in the suit. That said, come on, flamethrowers. Every TV show is improved with flamethrowers.

Besides, we’re really watching for Robin Lord Taylor as the Penguin fighting both Theo Galavan, who has a poorly considered plan taking over the city, and, unbeknownst to him, what sure looks like the Court of Owls, the secret conspiracy that has run Gotham since the Colonial era over in the comics. And also Michael Chiklis as Vic Mack-er, Nathaniel Barnes, the new captain and Gordon’s boss. It all starts colliding tonight, and promises to be a blast. Join us, won’t you?
