X-Men: Apocalypse marks the end of the current “prequel” series of X-Men films that started with First Class. It’s essentially been a series of right wrongs when you stand back to look at each film. Days of Future Past reset the timeline and Apocalypse is set to give the X-Men movies in the future a fresh start. But the problem with bringing things to an end means you might be losing some of key castmembers.
The rumors before were that stars like Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence wouldn’t be making a comeback if more X-Men films got produced. Not so for one of them, according to Empire. They talked to Jennifer Lawrence on the set of X-Men: Apocalypse and she dropped her hopes about her role in the series:
“I am dying to come back,” she told us. “I love these movies, I love being in them. I love ensemble movies because it’s not on anyone’s shoulders.”
Either that means Jennifer Lawrence doesn’t like being blamed for ruining a film or she’s lazy. Let the ensemble do it, right? Or maybe she’s being very genuine and actually enjoys being painted up like Mystique for eight hours at a time.
There’s really no reason why Lawrence couldn’t return. The Hunger Games is over and now she’s free to keep X-Men as her fun, marquee film that runs the summer before she stars in David O. Russell’s next movie. Not sure how much Mystique would be involved given her path in the original films, but the clean slate seems to toss it all up in the air.
