Winter is coming to Atlantis, as the makers of Justice League are doing everything they can to convince the public that their movie will be a more upbeat, fan-pleasing experience than Batman v Superman. Including, apparently, buying some nerd cred by casting a Game of Thrones favorite. That’s because, according to The Tracking Board, GoT regular Kristofer Hivju has joined Warner Bros’ superhero extravaganza.
On Game of Thrones, Hivju plays Tormund Giantsbane — the rugged Wildling commander who’s worked his way into fans’ hearts due to his puppy love crush on Brienne of Tarth and his general badassery. Hivju will apparently play an ancient Atlantean king in Justice League, and will possess one of the three Mother Boxes — the all-powerful McGuffins the DC team-up movie will revolve around. In all likelihood, the ancient Atlantean ruler Hivju is playing is King Orin, the ruler of Atlantis when it first sank to the bottom of the ocean. Aquaman (Jason Momoa) would later inherit Orin’s name and title.
Hivju has been on the rise recently. In addition to Game of Thrones, he had a memorable turn in the critically acclaimed Force Majeure, and will also be bringing his beardiness to the upcoming Fast 8.
Justice League arrives to save (or doom) the DC Extended Universe on Nov. 17, 2017.
