It might be hard to believe, but Captain America: Civil War isn’t the only game in town when it comes to May superhero cinematic offerings. No, The Phantom won’t be back to “slam evil” with a 20th anniversary re-release. X-Men: Apocalypse is the other mighty comic book movie due out this month (May 27) and there’s another injection of character featurettes available for viewing/judging/studying.
20th Century Fox has already provided profiles (or “Power Pieces”) on Storm and Angel, plus Jennifer Lawrence has already showcased a clip featuring Nightcrawler, so where to next? Promo videos placing the spotlight on Lawrence’s Mystique and Michael Fassbender’s Magneto. Lucky you!
Clocking in at the half-minute-and-under mark, these featurettes zoom by at a quick pace, but manage to cram in some impressive visuals from Bryan Singer’s upcoming blockbuster. For example, we get to hang out with sad Magneto, angry Magneto and destroying loads of things Magneto.
“Magneto is joining Apocalypse to wipe out the human race,” explains Fassbender before things swing over to the sight of the Sydney Opera House getting decimated.
Mystique’s profile is even more brief, but 10 seconds of Jennifer Lawrence elbowing dudes in the face and saying things like “let’s go to war” is better than no seconds at all. Considering that the running time for X-Men: Apocalypse is going to be two hours plus, you’ll get to hang out with these characters a smidge longer when the film actually tumbles out into theaters.

The capital letters sure make the movie seem important. Always happy to see those make an appearance.
