Torii Wolf let loose a new visual for her Preemo produced “1st Remix” featuring Dilated Peoples. Prior to the start of the song, there’s a documentary style shoot lasting a little over a minute featuring both rappers from Dilated Peoples discussing the creative process. Rakaa shares that Preem was the architect behind the the idea for he and Evidence to go back and forth on the latter half of the song.
Rakaa: He’s like, “I want you guys to go back and forth on the song. I want you to share this. I want you to do the pieces, you know, the eight bars each.
Evidence: We don’t do a lot of the back and forth sh*t. We’ve never been that group.
Rakaa: It was just a little bit of a riddle to figure it out, but once we, you know, just tried to capture the twist of the story, I think that was one of the most important things.
DJ Babu was in full support of Preem’s idea, saying “that’s what’s amazing about what DJ Premier can do, when you let him outside the box.”
Wolf is the first female artist to have her entire project produced by the New York legend. It takes a special woman to garner such a coveted achievement and Preemo will tell you Torii Wolf is just that.
“Torii has such a weird, wicked style,” Premier offers. “It’s just very left field—reminiscent of a Bjork or something like that. She is so unique and versatile; she writes, sings and is an accomplished guitarist and drummer. But image-wise, there is no comparison. Subject-wise, Torii is in a whole different place.”
The “1st Remix” video is in support of Wolf’s forthcoming album Flow Riott.
