It”s starting to look like the globe-trotting adventurer Lara Croft might be making her way back to theaters after all.
Fifteen years after Angelina Jolie first brought the popular video game character to life, Star Wars” Daisy Ridley confirms that she”s in talks to star in the next Tomb Raider movie. She revealed the news while at the Empire Awards in London.
In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Ridley said there “have been conversations” about her playing Croft, but nothing is for certain. “I”m waiting for someone to say ‘I want you, let”s do it',” she said. Ridley noted that there is not a script for the film just yet.
Since Jolie last played the character in the 2003 movie Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, any sort of reboot has sputtered and stalled. During this time, the list of potential leading ladies associated with the role has ranged from Megan Fox (she reportedly turned it down) to Olivia Wilde (she said it was never true) to Kristen Stewart (she also reportedly nixed it).
The first Tomb Raider movie grossed an inflation-adjusted $366 million worldwide. But the follow up was a bomb, bringing in just over $200 million.
