That didn”t take long.
Just nine days after bursting onto the scene and into your phone and the phones of everyone you know, Pokémon GO is already the biggest mobile game in U.S. history.
According to the unfortunately-named SurveyMonkey, the game that basically merges Google Maps with a scavenger hunt for animated characters with names like Muk, Sandshrew, and Snorlax already has nearly 21 million daily active users. Amazingly, this is more than Candy Crush, a game that”s been out for three years and has legions of fans. At its peak, Candy Crush had upwards of 20 million daily users.
With Pokémon GO“s absurd growth rate, it”s already passed Twitter and Candy Crush Saga, moving it into third place among those currently on Android phones at approximately 11 million daily active users. It only trails Google Maps (about 14 million) and Snapchat (almost 15 million).
The seemingly insatiable appetite for Pokémon GO has also hit Hollywood. Deadline is reporting that Legendary Pictures is looking to make a movie based on the game. They add that Max Landis, who wrote the upcoming Power Rangers film, is being considered to write the script.
Landis has denied any involvement, writing on Twitter, “I know nothing about pokemon…it's all rumors.”
