Remember that “Untitled Fox X-Men Show” that has been kicking around for a while? You know, the one about the so-called normal parents whose children begin to display mutant powers, sending them on the run from the government? The one with an underground network of mutants, including Magneto’s daughter Polaris and the teleporter known as Blink? That show finally has a name: The Gifted.
Fox announced today that they’ve picked The Gifted up for series. The show will take an action-adventure format. The network also finally gave names to all of the main cast, including the reveal that Blair Redford will not be playing a character named Sam — as reported by Entertainment Weekly months ago. Instead, Redford will be playing X-Men member John Proudstar of the Apache, better known as Thunderbird. The other notable item is just how many members of the Strucker clan are in this show. For those not in the know, Baron Wolfgang von Strucker is one of the original leaders of Hydra and a member of the Nazi party. Basically a bad news dude.
The entire cast list:
Stephen Moyer as Reed Strucker, Amy Acker as Caitlin Strucker, Sean Teale as Eclipse / Marcos Diaz, Jamie Chung as Blink / Clarice Fong, Coby Bell as Jace Turner, Emma Dumont as Polaris / Lorna Dane, Blair Redford as Thunderbird / John Proudstar, Natalie Alyn Lind as Lauren Strucker, and Percy Hynes White as Andy Strucker
Previous casting announcements point to Stephen Moyer and Amy Acker as the “normal couple” who are thrust into the world of mutants when their kids begin to exhibit powers. But with a last name like Strucker, I find it highly suspect that they didn’t know what was up. This feels a lot like when the Company put Claire into Noah Bennet’s keeping in Heroes. Regardless of what they knew when, the Struckers are going to have a lot of suspicions to overcome thanks to their lineage.
