If you ever needed more proof that the way movies are greenlit and funded is stupid, consider this: somehow Broken Lizard had to turn to crowdfunding to raise the funds to make a sequel to Super Troopers, one of the best cop comedies of all time (suck it, Police Academy).
Fortunately, the internet can be a pretty effective bat-signal for “stoner” projects like this and Operation Fund A Super Troopers Sequel has already passed their original funding goal of $2 million. At this point, any extra money raised is gravy. Or syrup. More cashola for mustache rides and liters of cola. As it says on their IndieGogo page:
If we could cry, we’d be crying. Thank you so much. Sincerely. We can make the skinny version of Super Troopers 2 but I think we all want the muscular version so let’s keep going.
…
If you’re jonesing for a weekend Lizard fix… we’ll be live tweeting Super Troopers tomorrow when it airs on Comedy Central at 6:50 PM (on the east coast), so cum watch it with us at @brokenlizard, or by following #SuperTroopers2.
For those of you needing a Super Troopers fix right meow, Broken Lizard has been releasing new skits on their crowdfunding page. Here’s the official fundraising announcement.
Now go donate a few bucks, chickenf*cker!
