If anyone needs further proof that Hollywood sexism and ageism is rampant: Maggie Gyllenhaal, ladies and gentlemen. She’s an accomplished, Academy Award-nominated, Golden Globe-winning actress. But none of that matters because, at 37-years-old, she has apparently long since seen her last f*ckable day.
Gyllenhaal told TheWrap that she was recently turned down for a film role playing the romantic interest of a 55-year-old man — as in, a man old enough to be her father — because she was “too old.”
“There are things that are really disappointing about being an actress in Hollywood that surprise me all the time,” she said during an interview for an upcoming issue of TheWrap Magazine. “I’m 37 and I was told recently I was too old to play the lover of a man who was 55. It was astonishing to me. It made me feel bad, and then it made feel angry, and then it made me laugh.”
I’m glad she was able to laugh about it, because that sense of humor should come in handy when she’s cleaning all those proverbial cobwebs out of her vagina. Gyllenhaal chose not to name the project she had been turned down for, because she apparently has more class than the casting director who disregarded her due to her age.
