It wasn’t too long ago — just this year — when Alejandro González Iñárritu’s Birdman was cleaning up at the awards circuit. Already, Iñárritu is back with his follow-up feature, and if the star power (Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy) wasn’t enough to excite you, then perhaps the trailer will.
The Revenant — set in the 1820s — follows DiCaprio’s character, Hugh Glass, as he looks to exact his revenge on Tom Hardy’s character for betraying him following a vicious bear attack. Along the way, Glass encounters “warring Native American tribes,” interesting characters, and what seems like some gunfights and melees. Emmanuel Lubezki, who was the cinematographer on Birdman (he’s also responsible for that stunning continuous take at the end of Children of Men), is back to pair with the Mexican maestro once again, and you can see some of those wide-panning shots that he liked to use in that film here.
The Revenant is set for release this December.
