Edge of Tomorrow (also known as Live. Die. Repeat.) should have been, for all intents and purposes, a massive hit. A huge sci-fi war epic starring Tom Cruise and directed by Doug Liman (who helmed The Bourne Identity and Mr. & Mrs. Smith) that’s essentially Independence Day meets Groundhog Day? How did this not make a zillion dollars? To be fair, it was a modest success, especially overseas (the film was based on the manga ‘All You Need Is Kill,‘ nearly assuring it would be big in Japan) — it just wasn’t the runaway hit it was predicted to be.
That being said, it’s looking like Cruise wants a sequel — and he’s got a great idea for it, too! While at the premiere for Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, Cruise told MTV News that he’s pitched said idea to Liman and screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie — although he didn’t actually bother to tell them what it was. He’s also run this idea by Emily Blunt.
While Cruise is all revved up for his sequel idea, the aforementioned manga is also getting a sequel, albeit one that’s been in development before the first movie was even released.
