Just in time for this season’s final episode of Hannibal to air, Variety is reporting that series star Mads Mikkelsen is in early talks to play a villain role in Marvel’s Doctor Strange movie. Attention should be paid to the word “early” as no offer has — as of yet — been made to the actor.
With NBC’s cancellation of Hannibal and the dwindling speculation of a future home for the series, the cast members of the Bryan Fuller drama have moved on to new projects. Earlier this month, we reported on Mikkelsen’s involvement with Star Wars: Rogue One. If he does indeed accept the role in Doctor Strange — opposite Benedict Cumberbatch’s Stephen Vincent Strange — Mikkelsen will be working on both a Marvel and Disney movie in the same year, with both projects set to hit theaters in late 2016. Not too shabby!
Previously, Marvel expressed interest in Mikkelsen as he was once offered the role of Malekith in Thor: The Dark World before accepting the iconic role of Dr. Hannibal Lecter for NBC. Doctor Strange already features some pretty strong acting talent — aside from Cumberbatch — with the intriguing addition of both Tilda Swinton and Chiwetel Ejiofor to the cast. The film is being helmed by Sinister‘s Scott Derrickson and is set to hit theaters on Nov. 4, 2016.
