Blockbuster summer has come to an end, and we’re finally out of the movie wasteland of September, so that means awards season is now in full swing. Yes, the Oscars aren’t until the end of February, but this is the reality that we live in.
David O. Russell’s Joy is shaping up to be a real contender. The first trailer didn’t give away much in terms of plot, but this new offering gives a little more insight into details of Joy Mangano’s life and the creation of the Miracle Mop. Jennifer Lawrence stars as Mangano, who started her own business and managed to raise three children alone. This trailer delves into Mangano’s strained relationship with her family, especially her father, played by Russell regular Robert De Niro. Bradley Cooper also gets in on the action as the Home Shopping Network exec who gave Mangano her shot.
Despite the fact that the film hasn’t been screened, Lawrence is considered a lock for the frontrunner position in the Best Actress Oscar race. If this trailer is any indication, the buzz is pretty deserved.
