We all know that jacked actor Jason Momoa will be playing Aquaman in four movies (because the world clearly pines for that much Aquaman), but to what extent, we know very little. It’s almost as if they know anything they tell us about a man who can talk to fish won’t sound very cool, so they are waiting for the character to come to life and speak for himself. Seems the actor portraying did just that at Sundance recently when an older women who was clearly a fan stood up and inquired into his role as the titular and tailless merman. First he dodged around it, then he warmed up a little.
From The Mary Sue:
A fan in the audience had a question “I have the very first Aquamancomic book because Aquaman was my very favorite character. Now, Jason, is Aquaman going to have a beard or mustache in this movie?”
“I mean, just going off what you’ve seen so far ma’am, I don’t think he is going to be blonde or white,” Momoa replied. “I can’t really tell you because I haven’t shot it yet. I hate to disappoint. But um, you know, I’m a little different than what those others… I hope you watch it with an open heart. I went to school for marine biology, it’s a real honor to play this.” He also referenced Kahului Maui, Hawaiian gods as coinciding with the story of superheroes.
Essentially, all we know is that we are getting a very different Aquaman than any of us have seen up to this point, which probably bodes quite well for the film, actually. An Aryan who can talk to dolphins just doesn’t have the box office draw as a massive, hulking man who probably rides sharks (I called it here first, people).
