We reported late last week that Disney had axed plans to move forward with the third film in the Tron series, but those who crave more of the universe are not going quietly into the night. A petition on Change.org is calling for Disney to revive the fallen film. It’s being rumored that Disney — with their low returns for the big-budget Tomorrowland — is afraid to sink more money into another epic right now. Here’s the description for the petition, started by Lucas Lowman:
Tron: Legacy grossed over 400 million dollars and helped more fully realize the world created in the original Tron. It’s a shame that Disney has elected not to move forward with a third Tron film as the universe is ripe to be explored. Sign this petition so that we may show Disney that The Grid is too great to never be shown again and to prove that Flynn lives.
As of this writing, the petition only needs 2,500 more supporters before the goal is reached. Will this kind of outcry work? It’s unlikely, as so few of these things do. Tron 3 was set to start filming this year, but it looks like the brakes will be kept on this light cycle for the time being.
