There’s a new dashing lad taking the lead in the race to be the next James Bond. Last month, fans were positive that Tom Hiddleston was going to be the next one asking for his martinis shaken, not stirred, but according to The Sun, bookies are head over heels with Aidan Turner. The Irish actor has been the odds on favorite since earlier this week when BoyleSports received a four-figure bet on Turner taking Daniel Craig’s place as Bond.
Odds were previously set at 2/5, but with the surge of support for Turner, BoyleSports temporarily suspended all bets on Bond. Yesterday they reopened for Bond bets again, and it’s no surprise that Turner is at the top spot with odds now at 1/5. BoyleSports spokesperson Liam Glynn said to The Sun,
“There is no smoke without a fire and it certainly looks like Turner has been in negotiations with the Bond producers and it will be interesting to see how long we will be able to keep the market open for again or will we see a gamble take place on an outsider in the coming days.”
Turner is currently starring in the BBC 18th century drama Poldark as Captain Ross Poldark and the recent adaptation of Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None. However to a global audience, Turner is known for playing Kíli in the Hobbit trilogy. Despite bookies having fun with predicting the next Bond, Daniel Craig has yet to announce formally that he is hanging up his black bow tie.
