After months of advertisements, interviews, and expected Hollywood pomposity, Angelina Jolie will not be able to attend the premiere of her new film, Unbroken. Did she finally realize her Oscar-baiting wouldn’t work on the Academy? Has she already found a new project to fawn over (at Brad and the kids’ expense)?
Turns out, she has chicken pox. It only took six kids to expose the actress-turned-director to the plight of us commoners, but now there’s no escape. To prove the point, Universal Studios released a short clip on YouTube and a press release explaining the situation.
Universal Pictures today confirmed that Angelina Jolie will be withdrawing from public events scheduled over the coming days due to a mild bout of chicken pox. She intends to resume her schedule and press engagements at the earliest opportunity.
In the video, Jolie doesn’t give too many details about the situation, but she does express disappointment at missing the premiere. According to MTV:
“I just wanted to be clear and honest about why I will be missing the ‘Unbroken’ events in the next few days, which is that I found out last night that I have chicken pox,” Jolie says. “I will be home, itching and missing everyone, and I can’t believe it because this film means so much to me.”
Everyone involved – Universal, Jolie, Brad and the kids – seems really calm about the situation. Back in the day, when I was a wee one, I suffered the travesty of chicken pox like all the other school kids. It seemed a lot less like Jolie’s predicament and more like this:
