In the new movie Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, Anna Kendrick plays Alice, a foul-mouthed stoner who, along with Aubrey Plaza’s Tatiana, pretends to be a sophisticated debutante so she can get a free trip to Hawaii.
Now, watching hotel porn in a tropical paradise sounds like a breeze, and it is, but it’s not a role that came to Kendrick easily. She described herself to Net-a-Porter as the “square” of the cast, the person constantly asking everyone, “Are you wearing sunblock?” And yet, she’s no goodie-goodie, either. Kendrick said that she’d “be terrible at being like Taylor Swift, the perfect Miss America version of interacting with fans and making sure they have a good experience. I mean, I don’t want people to meet me and have it f*ck up their day, but I’m glad I can say something weird to them and they know that’s just me.”
Later in the interview, Kendrick revealed which Marvel superhero she’d like to play, or more accurately, the Marvel superhero her brother thinks she should portray. It’s an offbeat choice, so it’s perfect for Kendrick. “My brother sent me a Squirrel Girl comic because he thinks I should [play her],” she said. “I don’t know what Squirrel Girl does other than be half squirrel, but I could be half squirrel!” Squirrel Girl talks to squirrels to defeat bad guys, and her fuzzy sidekick is named Tippy-Toe — what more do you need to know?
