Anne Hathaway says she loves to listen to hip hop while driving around in the car, but who knew it would lead to a rap battle with James Corden? Likely everybody. Hathaway turns into a regular Natalie Portman in a ‘Drop The Mic’ rap battle on The Late Late Show, sometimes dipping in hurtful territory with the rhymes she spit out like hot fire after preparing them backstage. Still, this is a fun little segment for late night television and something that Corden is doing quite well considering his competition.
He sorta does a mix of what Jimmy Fallon pulls out for The Tonight Show, but adds some of that British flavor and keeps it seeming genuine throughout. If you were to watch Carpool Karaoke and compare it to Lip Sync Battle, the results are night and day. Both are planned and faux representations of the celebrities, but Karaoke just seems to get a better reaction from my point of view. Also it features real singing.
This features some real beatboxing talent too, so you have to give Corden a little credit. He knows who to bring in and knows where the strengths lie. Also this followed a segment where he talked about being attracted to the most handsome horse in the world. Not many other shows are talking about horse sex in late night.
