While reception for Batman V Superman was mixed at best, most agree that the brief glimpses that fans got of the rest of the Justice League were some of the highlights of the film. Couple that with a strong and (perhaps most importantly) fun first look at the team’s first united film, and many are willing to overlook the dour tone of BvS as growing pains and look forward to further super heroics. While Justice League will be rumbling into theaters November 17th, 2017 (and Wonder Woman on June 2nd), it looks like Aquaman will our first post-assembled team feature, with a new and official release date of October 5th, 2018.
From the looks of the trailer, Jason Momoa’s Aquaman will be a whiskey-guzzling scene-stealer, and director James Wan has interesting things to say about the tone of the stand alone film.
“I kind of don’t want to give too much away but know this: The spirit that I’m going for is like a classic sort of swashbuckling action adventure, sort of high seas adventure story. It’s ultimately a quest story in the spirit of Raiders of the Lost Ark meets Romancing the Stone.”
Intrigued? You’re not alone. BvS grossed $873.3 worldwide, so it’s safe to say that despite all of the thinkpieces about “superhero saturation,” people still like to watch superhumans save the world.
