Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows is the sequel to 2014’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the current nightmare of anyone who is trying to watch their character count in headlines. We’ve seen a few trailers for the latest Turtles flick already, and despite the overall negative reception towards the Michael Bay-produced first film, this latest outing looks like it could be a fun time. The masked foursome doesn’t look as prehistoric this time out, and the sequel looks like a nice mix of the classic comics in style and the classic cartoon in tone. Whether this will be a classic remains to be seen.
As a fan of the aforementioned iterations of Leonardo, Donatello, Michaelangelo and Raphael, I have to admit that this looks like a fun movie. The opening scene in this trailer looks gorgeous, and the boys infiltrating a flying cargo plane is a far cry from the usual dark, wet, city streets. There’s no denying the mark-out moments like the appearance of Casey Jones and the best looks at Bebop and Rocksteady yet.
And the Technodrome. My god, the Technodrome.
Who knows, maybe the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise can turn into a Marvel Cinematic Universe, and we can get all of the usual suspects back in the fold. Mostly I just want to see a modern Usagi Yojimbo. Please create a modern Usagi Yojimbo. Please.
