Masterminds — Jared Hess’ comedy starring Zach Galifianakis, Kristen Wiig, Owen Wilson, Kate McKinnon, and Mary Elizabeth Ellis — was supposed to be released in August 2015. It’s finally coming out this weekend. But that year-plus wait is nothing compared to how long it’s been since the last new “Between Two Ferns,” Galifianakis’ web series for Funny or Die. It’s hard to top giving Brad Pitt a giant bong (“Tell me what I was like the first time that you laid eyes on Angelina. Was it like one of those classical love stories, like when, I don’t know, Ross first saw Rachel?”) or asking Barack Obama what it’s like to be “the last black president,” but in booking the potential next president, Hillary Clinton, Galifianakis may have topped himself.
And he wasn’t afraid to ask the tough questions.
-“Are you excited to be the first girl president?”
-“As Secretary, how many words per minute could you type? And how does President Obama like his coffee? Like himself? Weak?”
-“What happens if you become pregnant?”
-“When you see how well it works for Donald Trump, do you ever think to yourself, oh, I should be more racist?”
-“Any regrets over losing the Scott Baio vote?”
Trump (and his “white power tie”) was asked to be on Between Two Ferns, but when he learned Galifianakis wouldn’t tussle his hair, he bailed.
